Career and Technical Education, or CTE, programs are based on industry standards and community industry input. Students can earn a wide array of industry-recognized certifications while in high school and can even receive college credit through partnerships with colleges and tech schools.
These programs provide scaffolding to build upon skills so that students become lifelong learners ready for careers or further schooling in their field of interest. The skills that students learn prepare them for jobs in high-skill, high-wage careers and also prepares them for college and higher education.

The goal of AID III is to make a positive impact on the physical environment of the school through student led design, redesign, and remodeling. Culinary Arts I is the introductory course for the 2-year Culinary Arts coherent sequence. This is an entry-level class providing basic principles in food science, food safety, and food preparation. This class is a prerequisite for Digital Photography II, III, and Yearbook Publications. This class will introduce students to the mechanics and techniques of taking great photographs. Through weekly photo assignments, students will use a point and shoot camera to take photographs to improve their skills. Photographic fundamentals will include lighting, composition, posing subjects and camera functions. Students will learn the basic tools of photo editing using the software program Photoshop. Advanced Digital Photography uses the skills of taking good photos that students learned in the basic photo class and expands on them. Students will use a Digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses to learn the techniques and fundamentals of shutter speeds, aperture and depth of field. This is a foundational preparatory course for those students pursuing careers in technical, design and engineering fields. Students dig deep into the engineering design process, utilizing project based learning techniques applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems. Students will learn to use Autodesk Inventor, a 2D and 3D computer aided design and drafting (CADD) modeling software, to construct solid models and print them on a 3D printer. Learners keep a professional engineering notebook to document thoughts, ideas, sketches, and hand crafted drawings. Students will learn to use metal and wood band saws, laser cutters, 3D printers, hand tools, pneumatic tools and many more. Some hands-on lessons include learning to use a dial caliper, reverse engineering and building a glider, designing and building a puzzle cube, using composite materials, designing, building, and testing a model vehicle. Successful completion of a full year of this course will prepare students for the Principles of Engineering course.

Through exciting and interesting problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics. Students continue to develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. Learners will continue to use 3D modeling software, laser cutters, and will learn to use a manual vertical mill, a manual lathe, CNC milling, and 3D printers while growing their skills using the engineering design process to seek out solutions to problems. This year students prepare and complete a capstone project. During the first semester, students will continue to improve their problem solving skills using the engineering process, designing software, and shop tools. Students will continue to create prototypes to test and solve engineering problems. The projects will continue to delve deeper into science theory and challenge students to find and create physical solutions. The second semester is considered the capstone semester. During this semester, students will choose their own problem and work towards a solution to this problem using the tools and knowledge they have gained through the previous two and a half years. The final product is then presented to a body of peers and staff at the end of the year.
This course propels students’ learning in the fundamentals of atmospheric and space flight. As they explore the physics of flight, students bring the concepts to life by designing an airfoil and testing it in a wind tunnel, explore and test propulsion system, work with composite materials, design and test model rocketry, design and construct gliders, and build and fly a remote-controlled (RC) aircraft. They study and learn basic orbital mechanics using industry-standard software. They also explore robot systems through projects such as remotely operated vehicles. Prerequisite: IED & POE courses.

Students who successfully complete the Digital Communication program’s coherent sequence of instruction will develop an in-depth understanding of news writing and editing, reporting, photojournalism, page layout, graphic design, media management, product distribution and delivery and specialized equipment operation and maintenance. Digital Communication students will explore the history and societal and economic impact of the digital communication industry and will examine legal and ethical considerations and business best practices unique to digital communication and related industries. Emphasis is placed on common threads between the disciplines: writing, visual composition (video framing, graphic design and electronic page layout), and application of the principles and elements of design as they relate to each content area.
